Having spent a short time pondering on this, it turns out my character creation process (or at least for FFXIV) was pretty damn involved... From childhood influences and how easily I am molded by peers to how I got introduced to FFXIV in the first place, this post will have it all! (And some of it will even be relevant!)
So, female, because why not. I've done it before, I'll do it again. Totally not driven by studies that show people who play as things that don't apply to themselves irl are less likely to be bigoted assholes. Nope!
As far as race selection was concerned (this is important, I swear) a friend has previously put me off choosing human for anything where you have a choice due to its 'Vanilla-ness' and another removed elves... well there are reasons. I wasn't feeling quite absurd enough to make a Lalafel Warrior, and Catgirl was out on principle so it looks like Roegadyn is the race for me!
Youtube videos a la PlumpHelmetPlunk meant that I'd done some research on the game before buying and stumbled across a little pseudo language/name translation thing for, you guessed it, Roegadyn! 5 mins later I'm armed with a surname of Syznaent, an amalgamation of Sitting and Duck inspired by a moment pf exceptional wit at the tender age of 11 during a drama class.
Which left just the forename of Magg, which was relatively easier, since its based off my MagneticFerret usertag/thing, itself derived from a joke made by schoolchildren when introduced to the concept of magnetism and ferrites by a teacher who owned ferrets...
So yeah, entirely too involved a post but whatev's. I'm funny guys! Its just that I'm the only one who gets the references!
